Es en 1967 cuando Jimi Hendrix, considerado el mejor guitarrista de todos los tiempos, lanza su mayor obra: "Are you Experienced?", acompañada del single "Purple Haze", una de las canciones más controvertidas, famosas y clave para la formación de otro astro: Robert Smith. Así es, parte de la existencia de The Cure se la debemos a la influencia de Hendrix sobre el señor Smith, quien en 1993 grabó dos versiones de "Purple Haze" para un tributo del guitarrista nortemaricano.
